GOALS

The top three goals of the Hoosier Heartland Area Labor Federation are;

1. ORGANIZE THE ORGANIZED!

  • We cannot build momentum to strengthen the labor movement without support from local unions. That's why our top priority is to meet with as many locals within our area to promote our mission. Our goal is to secure buy in and diversify our boards so we can serve all working people in our area to prove that together we are stronger!

2. CHANGE PUBLIC PERCEPTION

  • We're working to change the negative stigma of unions through community engagement and outreach efforts to show that union members are an integarl part of our communities. We deliver your mail, teach your children, pave your roads, electrify your hospitals and homes and build the infrastructure of America. And most importantly, unions give you the freedom to collectively bargain a fair contract, to access to affordable health care and retire with dignity.

3. BUILD POLITICAL STRENGTH

  • We are building power throughout our 27 counties with comprehensive education programs that focus on how to be politically active. Specifically, how to serve on boards and comissions, how to run for public office, how to engage with elected officials and how to vote on issues that impact union members and ALL working people.

OBJECTIVES & PRINCIPLES

As stated in the Preamble of the HHALF Constitution, the establishment of the Hoosier Heartland Area Labor Federation: “as a subordinate unit of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations is an expression of the desire of the Unions in this community to participate fully in the achievement of the objectives of the parent Federation as it seeks to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the working people of all America.”

We pledge ourselves to the more effective organization of working men and women;

  • to the securing to them of full recognition and enjoyment of the rights which they are justly entitled;
  • to the achievement of ever higher standards of living and working conditions;
  • to the attainment of security for all the people;
  • to the enjoyment of the leisure which their skills make possible;
  • and to the strengthening and extension of our way of life and the fundamental freedoms which are the basis of our democratic society.
